I was skeptical that a digital music "instrument" could be a great source of inspiration. But everyone's been raving about how fun the workflow is for the Native Instruments Maschine. I didn't have the pockets for one of those, so I gladly took the negligible sacrifices and scored a Maschine Mikro. The new MK2 version had a very compelling package: 11GB of samples, free VST instruments left and right, and a $30 voucher for any other NI product.

I spent a few hours learning some of the "ins" and "outs" of the device, gradually becoming familiar with the workflow, drawing comparisons to Cubase and Ableton, with which I was already accustomed.

A few hours later, my first creation was born! Dubbed: "New Beginnings".

One of the reasons I was most excited for this device was the live-playability aspect. Evident in the following video, it is SO MUCH FUN!!! There's lights flashing all over the place. You can opt to do as much or as little performance work as you'd like, with all ratios of such being extremely enjoyable.

Take a look for yourself!
